Green Roofs for Healthy Cities Renews Board of Directors with Diverse Expertise

Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC), a member-based association which advocates and promotes the widespread adoption of green roofs and living walls, is thrilled to announce the addition of new board members. These individuals will bring a wealth of experience and expertise to further GRHC's mission of creating healthy, resilient and sustainable cities through green roof and wall implementation. 

Research Chair - Bruce Dvorak

Bruce Dvorak, FASLA, is a Professor at Texas A&M University in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning. He has been conducting green roof and living wall research since 2009 and founded the Southern Plains Living Architecture Center in 2022.  Many thanks to Jennifer Bousselot, Professor, Colorado State University for her outstanding accomplishments as the outgoing Research Chair and her pioneering work on agrivoltaics. 

Green Walls Committee Chair - Lily Turner, Urbanstrong

Lily Turner, Director of Green Walls at Urbanstrong, will serve as the Green Walls Committee Chair and contribute her passion and expertise in vertical greenery to GRHC's mission. Turner is a director of green walls at Urbanstrong, an award-winning green building firm. She is a biophilic designer and living wall specialist. She is experienced in working with architects, designers, and contractors to provide technology that aligns with their budget, design parameters, and scale.

Policy Committee Chair - Shayna Stott, City of Toronto

Shayna Stott has been an integral part of the Environmental Policy team as a Senior Policy Planner with the City of Toronto City Planning Division for over 15 years. Throughout her distinguished career, Shayna has been instrumental in addressing the pressing climate and biodiversity emergencies through innovative planning approaches. She has played a crucial role in co-leading the development and implementation of the Green Roof Bylaw and the Toronto Green Standard, demonstrating her dedication to greening urban spaces for the benefit of both people and the environment.  Shayna replaces Peter Lowitt who has retired from Devens Enterprise Commission and has served as GRHC Board Chair as well as the Policy Committee Chair.  

Chair, Regional Academic Centers - Dr. Olyssa Starry, Portland State University

Dr. Olyssa Starry is an urban ecologist, and professor at Portland State University who investigates cities using a systems approach, specializing in stormwater and green roofs. She will play a pivotal role in advancing research and education initiatives within GRHC and through the Regional Academic Centers of Excellence. Olyssa replaces Dr. Reid Coffman, professor at Kent University, who helped establish and administer the RACE program.

Corporate Members

Roxanne Miller, Soprema 

Roxanne Miller, Directrice at SOPRANATURE® Canada, has been intimately involved in many green roof projects in Quebec and across Canada. She is a landscape architect by training, a regular contributor to the Living Architecture Monitor and most recently an instructor of the new Green Roof Installation and Maintenance Professional training and certification. Roxanne will serve as a corporate member at large on the board.  

Charles Duprey, Naturcycle 

Charles Duprey is the president at Naturecycle. He’s a graduate of Syracuse University and resident of Central New York, brings over a decade of expertise in Compost Marketing and Sales for private and municipal customers. His work has taken him from New York City, Philadelphia, and all over Western New England, specializing in compost applications, techniques, and value engineering.

Charles and Roxanne will be replacing outgoing board members Charles Ormsby of ARUP, and Joshua Barnes of Permaloc. They have both contributed significantly to GRHC over their two year tenure.

These new board members will work collaboratively through Green Roofs for Healthy Cities to develop resources, advocate for supportive green roof and wall policies, and advance research and education efforts across North America. Their dedication to creating greener, healthier, and more resilient cities aligns perfectly with GRHC's vision.

GRHC is excited to welcome these outstanding individuals to the board, and their collective experience and knowledge will significantly contribute to the organization's ongoing success.
