Don’t Miss Out on Resilient City Building: Join us at the Grey to Green Toronto Conference on June 11-12, 2023

The upcoming Grey to Green Toronto Conference, hosted by Green Roofs for Healthy Cities (GRHC) is scheduled to take place in person on June 11-12, 2023 at the Centre for Social Innovation, Suite 101 on Spadina. This highly anticipated event will bring together industry experts, designers, policy-makers, and community leaders to explore the latest trends and innovations in green infrastructure. With Toronto facing unique challenges in managing its urban environment due to rapid growth and the impacts of climate change, the conference aims to provide solutions and strategies for building a sustainable and resilient city for all. The conference will feature a comprehensive agenda covering key themes such as "Designing for the Future," "Moving from Policy to Practice," and "Climate Positive Design." Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with experts in the field, gain insights from the latest research and over 15 speakers, and connect with like-minded individuals who are passionate about creating a greener and healthier city.

The first day of the conference, June 11, will include training sessions and tours, including the new Green Roof Installation & Maintenance Professional Training (GRIMP) certification. Limited registration is available for this certification program, which offers valuable hands-on training and insights into the fundamental techniques and information necessary for successful green roof installation and maintenance. The training is led by Dr. Karen Liu of Next Level Stormwater Management and a tour of Sherway Gardens will provide participants with a firsthand experience of one of Canada's largest commercial green roofs, installed in 2014, led by both Dr. Karen Liu and Cristina Senjug of Next Level Stormwater Management. In addition, on June 11 attendees can participate in a series of tours at notable locations in Toronto. These tours will be led by experts who have helped work on these and other green infrastructure projects. Tours include:

On June 12, the conference will continue with a full-day plenary-style conference with over 15 speakers and attached trade show. Renowned speakers, including Lily Turner, Director of Green Walls, Urbanstrong, Birgit Teichmann, Landscape Architect, Teichmann Landscape Architecture, Charles Ormsby, Sustainability and Climate Services Leader, P.Eng, ARUP, Christine Mettler, Director of Green Infrastructure Programs, Green Communities Canada, who will present on topics on policy and governance, climate ready school grounds, designing green roofs and walls, and more.

Finally, to conclude the conference, the Rooftop Farm Reception promises to be an extraordinary networking opportunity, offering attendees a chance to connect with industry professionals and like-minded individuals. The event holds particular significance as it marks the first public opening of the university's innovative rooftop farm, a space that embodies the transformational power of urban farming.

Guests will be treated to views of Toronto's skyline while exploring one of the city's most unique and inspiring rooftop spaces. This is TMU’s second urban rooftop farm, and it is not only an architectural marvel but also serves as a catalyst for empowering and uplifting BIPOC communities. It symbolizes the university's commitment to sustainability, resilience, and creating inclusive spaces for all.
